Kinder to Prep Transition

Mentone Primary School is committed to welcoming our new Foundation/Prep students and their families to the schoolcommunity and to making the transition to school a positive experience for all.

Developing strong connections with local feeder kinders and childcare centres is very important to us. Throughout the year we invite our local kindergartens and childcare centres to visit us in the Prep Learning Area and enjoy some time in the playground. We hold a Pre-Prep Experience in April for families where children experience a short session in the Prep classrooms.

Kinder to Prep Transition 2023

The transition program commences in Term 4 in the year preceding school entry. Foundation students are invited to attend four sessions. During these sessions, they undertake a variety of literacy and numeracy activities. They have the opportunity to explore the Prep Learning Area and meet the Prep teachers. They also meet student leaders and other students who will start school at the same time. Please see the attached flyer for 2023 Prep intake transition dates and times.

Prep parents are invited to attend a Prep Information Night in November. During this session you will acquire all the information you need to ensure a smooth start to school for your child.

We conclude the transition program with a Teddy’s Bear’s Picnic in late November.

School tours

Mentone Primary School welcomes and encourages families to join us on a school tour to learn about all that we have to offer when you become part of our school community.

Tours are scheduled for 10am on Fridays and are led by our Principal. On the tour families will visit classrooms and are able to observe classes in progress. Please contact the school office to book in for a tour.

A copy of this social story comes home in the Prep information pack. It gives a snapshot of what it will be like when your child begins Prep at Mentone P.S.
