Visual Art
Mentone Primary School runs a comprehensive Visual Arts program which continues to be a favourite amongst students, staff and families. All students experience a weekly, one hour Art lesson with a specialist art teacher, in a well-resourced and spacious art room.
Through the Visual Arts, students develop important life skills such as creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communicating, using tools, self-expression, organisation and conceptual understanding. They can explore drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, clay, print-making and digital technologies.
The program is linked to other learning areas such as History, Geography, Maths, Science and Literacy, thus extending and enriching children’s’ knowledge.
Students learn about the significance of artists from Australia and different cultures to inspire their art making. They also develop an understanding of their responsibilities as global citizens.
Art energizes the school environment and above all it’s FUN!
