At Mentone Primary School, we are committed to nurturing every student’s potential. As part of our enrichment and extension strategy, we implement the Student Excellence Program that delivers a range of initiatives to support and extend high-ability students. This program identifies and supports high-ability students through targeted opportunities that extend their learning and build their confidence and engagement.

Two key initiatives that Mentone Primary School implements are the Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) and the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES).

Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP)

The Victorian High-Ability Program provides selected students in Years 5 and 6 with the opportunity to participate in ten-week online enrichment courses in English or Mathematics. Led by expert educators, these sessions develop higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES)

The Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series complements VHAP by offering Years Prep to 6 students access to a wide variety of online and in-person masterclasses and workshops, delivered by universities, industry professionals, and cultural organisations. VCES provides engaging, real-world learning opportunities that go beyond the standard classroom curriculum.
